Note

The statue seen here is a 2nd century CE Roman copy of a cult statue from the sanctuary of Rhamnus in Attica, Greece. The original work was attributed to Agorakritos. This version was discovered at the Roman Baths of Caracalla during excavations in the 1540s. Depicted here is Nemesis, also known as Rhamnousia, who is the personification of divine retribution against hubris. She is adorned in a chiton and palla, with a scepter in one hand and a gorgoneion in the other. Her pose is dynamic, and it embodies her justice. This work is currently housed at the Naples National Archaeological Museum, Italy.
