Note

This sculpture type is called the Aphrodite/ Venus Genetrix, characterized by . Featured here is Aphrodite with wavy hair tied in a ribbon, wearing a sakkos, chiton, and uncovering her breast with her himation. Her weight is on her left leg with her right arm raised. In her left hand she holds an object. Julius Caesar dedicated a temple to Venus Genetrix as a divine ancestor, making this sculpture style popular in Roman art. This statue is a marble roman copy after a Greek bronze original attributed to Callimachus, from the late 5th century BCE. It is currently housed in the Naples national Archaeological Museum, Italy.
