Note

This is a section of the ancient Bema, also known as the Rostra or Judgement Seat, located at the ancient site of Corinth, Greece. This elevated stone platform served as a rostrum for public speakers and a judicial tribunal in the center of the Roman Forum. The structure includes have limestone quarried locally as well as marble blocks. On the base are preserved Roman carved architectural molding fragments, cornices, and decorative marble friezes. Later in history, a Byzantine church was erected over the ruins of this platform. In Christian tradition and the New Testament, in Act 18, Apostle Paul was brought to this site to face trial before the Roman Proconsul Gallio after being accused of unlawful teachings.
