Note

This is a well-preserved Greek temple dedicated to Hephaestus, the patron god of metal working, craftsmanship, and fire. It is a Doric peripteral temple, located on the north-west side of the Agora of Athens, atop the Agoraios Kolonos hill. It was constructed in the 'golden age' of Classical Athens. Above the columns are the architrave and frieze, the latter consisting of triglyphs interspersed with metopes showing the Labors of Heracles. It was incorporated into the Church of Agios Georgios, and from the 7th century until 1834, it served as the Greek Orthodox church of Saint George Akamates.
