Note
This is the northwest corner entablature of the Parthenon. It consists of several layers of distinctly Classical Doric architecture. First, the architrave, which is the unadorned stone lintel resting directly on the fluted Doric column capitals. An alternating sequence of vertically positioned triglyphs and sculpted metope reliefs. Additionally, the Geison, or cornice, is the projecting upper molding that framed the top architecture and would have supporting the pediment above it. The sculpted slabs on this corner are included in the overarching layout of narrative. On the uppermost corner of the gutter is a sculpted lion's head waterspout, designed to keep rainwater away from the marble material.
