Note

The bridge is made of Shelley limestone and has three tiers of arches that stand 48.8 meters high. The original purpose of this structure was to transport water over 50km to the local homes, baths, and fountains of the citizens in the Roman colony Nemausus, modern day Nîmes. Due to its meticulous precision, there was a gradient decline of 1 cm, allowing the water to flow to its desired destination. After the collapse of the Roman Empire, it took up another role acting as a toll bridge.
