Note
In their pursuit of the whooping crane, wildlife authorities from both the United States and Canada engaged in public outreach campaigns that encouraged everyday people to submit sightings in their area to identify potential breeding and nesting locations. Although birds were sometimes misidentified by concerned citizens, there is no doubt that the public was invested in the work of Allen and his team.
