Rearview Frontier: Josh Hammond Papers
Rearview Frontier: The Josh Hammond papers on the Discovery and Application of American Cultural Forces to Public Policy Programs are based on Josh Hammond's twenty qualitative and quantitative studies that lead to the discovery and identification of seven cultural forces that define Americans, published by Macmillan books and used by Disney University for a professional development program. His two major careers were drug abuse prevention and education from the first legislation in the US Congress to go beyond enforcement and education and prevent. The formative research was the basis of Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” campaign launch in 1982.; and second, in total quality management and the study of the cultural forces that influence America's global competitiveness that included the National Quality Month Campaign, Quality First, established by US Congress and a Proclamation by President Ronald Reagan. Both careers draw upon his educational experiences at the University of South Florida. The collection spans three decades and provides insight into his work in federal government, national public education campaigns, organizational development, and strategic management. The collection consists of documents, research reports, publications, brochures, periodicals, subject files, two published books, and mixed-media materials created or curated by Hammond.
Also represented are materials related to his service as Director of Communications for the White House Special Action Office for Drug Abuse Prevention; his work as Senior Legislative Assistant to U.S. Senator Harrison A. Williams Jr.; and his involvement creation of the National Public Advertising Center and serving as the founding president of American Quality Foundation, the first CEO-focused Think Tank on Total Quality Management. These records document public health and drug prevention initiatives, wellness campaigns, quality management research, strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, business leadership, and public policy.
