Abstract
This paper describes a distributed approach to management information systems for mental health organizations that is less costly and complex than the widely advocated integrated system. Presented is a client statistics subsystem that can be written with a standard statistical analysis package, such as SAS or SPSSX. The details of the data system at the Florida Mental Health Institute are described to illustrate the principles of the approach.
