Felix Pinard Photograph Collection
The Felix Pinard Photograph Collection consists of ten sepia print photographs taken in Tampa and the surrounding environments. Felix J. Pinard (1873-1914) was the son of well-known photographer John B. F. Pinard (1845-1903), who moved to Sarasota in 1886 and photographed early scenes of new settlers in the area. The elder Pinard is widely considered the first professional photographer of Sarasota.
The photographs in this collection are believed to have been taken by the younger Pinard, who also dabbled in photography. Felix J. Pinard is believed to have been a cigarmaker who lived in the industrial city of Gary (later abolished and encompassed by the city of Tampa) at the time of his death. His wife, formerly Margaret Jacob Pida and later Margaret Jacob Pinard, is featured in many of the photographs, as well as her two children, Philip Francis Pida and Frances Pida (later Mrs. Edward Bartlett). The couple reportedly had five additional children.
