Abstract
Research Vessel (R/V) Gyre docked in a port in March 1989. R/V Gyre is seen as a large ship, painted red and white. An American flag and a Texas state flag are flown at the top of the ship. R/V Gyre was built for the U.S. Navy and entered service in 1973. R/V Gyre was leased to Texas A&M University's School of Oceanography which utilized it for scientific research until it was sold in 2005 to the private research and service company TDI-Brooks.
