Abstract
A panel from the exhibit "From Fiddler Crabs to a Harbor with Class: A History of Bayboro Harbor and the University of South Florida St. Petersburg" celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the university.
During the late 1990s, USF St. Petersburg faced new challenges while embarking on new initiatives. Freshman and sophomores began to attend classes on campus. Local lawmakers, concerned that Tampa-based administrators cared little for USF's home along Bayboro, threatened to remove the campus from the USF System. After delicate negotiations and legislative demands, USF St. Petersburg began to pursue separate regional accreditation of its programs. USFSP also anticipated the arrival of new student housing (named Residence Hall One) and a parking garage facility.
