Abstract
Upper ocean seasonal variations in velocity and temperature observed with current meters on surface moorings along the equator in the Atlantic during February ‐ September 1983 are shown. The longitudinal variation in the duration of upwelling and downwelling responses to zonal wind stress changes are discussed. These responses exhibit an integral character dependent upon longitudinal position which is consistent with forced linear long wave theory.
