Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of the latest vaccine development to combat the SARS-CoV-2. The classification of available vaccines is discussed and strategies for the development of these biologics are reviewed. Along with the body’s immune response to vaccines, the efficacy of vaccines against novel SARS-CoV-2 variations is reviewed. Finally, possible concerns about the use of these vaccines are addressed. By and large, it should be noted that when the world is faced with a viral pandemic, in addition to producing an adequate amount of a desirable quality of a vaccine, how to distribute it, and prioritize patients, are points to consider. After juxtaposing the unfortunate consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of timely production of desirable vaccines, it may not be unreasonable for governments to consider establishing centers that are exclusively dedicated to the industrial production of vaccines in preparation for the future.
