Abstract
An oral history with Joey Brooks, a drag performer. Brooks grew up in Tampa as the youngest of seven children in a Southern Baptist family. They talked about the gay scene in Tampa, Florida, in the late 1970s. Brooks also spoke specifically about the El Goya gay club in Ybor City where drag shows would take place. Brooks later started performing magic tricks and eventually drag at El Goya as a protegee of drag queen Brenda Dee. They spoke about their show career in Las Vegas as a Dolly Parton impersonator and other performances across the country.
