Abstract
100 color plates (includes one foldout), 50 other illustrations (black-and-white photos and drawings). Publisher's original black cloth, lettered in gray on the spine and with gray reindeer image on the front cover, color pictorial dust jacket, sm folio (13 x 10 inches). The 17,000 year old cave site of Lascaux was discovered in 1940 but it was sealed from visitors until 1963. It 1982, the author's six person team began photographing the cave murals; this effort took three years. Lascaux was later sealed again and not re-opened to the public. No ownership marks and no signs of use.
