Abstract

This article will make a first approach to the process of change and transformation that occurred in the cult in the caves by the populations of the Central Plateau. To Mesoamerican cultures, the caves have a sacred and symbolic value associated with the myths of origin, the agricultural calendar and rites of passage connected with the political and religious power of the elites. During the Evangelization, some substantial changes will be given and the cult in caves will be mostly transformed in syncretic cults of popular character.
