Abstract

Desde los tiempos formativos hasta nuestros dias, las diversas culturas mesoamericanas utilizaron las cuevas tanto como habitatión, remgio, ambiente de trabajo, mente de abastecimiento de agua y destino de peregrinaciones mencionar algunos usos. En el año 2010 me identificada una cueva nombrada como Aktun Santuario, en Akil, Yucatán, la cual habia sido “sellada” por los propios mayas. La exploratión de este espacio determinó su importancia por la cantidad de informatión contextual, valiosa en el área de la arqueología (cerámica, lítica, construcciones, etc.) y también en el área de la iconografïa, la cual, estaba representada por pinturas en las paredes en temáticas diversas (abtractos, antropomorfos, zoomorfos). El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la distributión de esta evidencia, es decir, la correlatión entre las pictografias y los materiales cerámicos asociados que puedan ayudar a proponer los diferentes usos que se le dieron a la cavidad. Since formative times until nowadays the diverse Mesoamerican cultures used caves as habitations, places of refuge, workplaces, rural water supplies and destinies forritualpilgrimages, to name just a few benefits. In 2010 was identified a cave designated Aktun Santuario ("Sanctuary Cave") located in the municipality of Akil, Yucatan, which was "sealed" by the ancient Maya. The exploration of the cave determined its significance regarding the quantity of contextual information which turns out to be valuable for the fields of archaeology (ceramic and lithic remains, modifications of the natural environment, constructions ofritualaltars) as well as iconography. Aktun Santuario contains a vast amount of elaborately rendered painted motifs of various themes (hand prints, abstract motifs, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic). The objective of the present study is the presentation and analysis of the paintings, their distribution within the cave, and the correlation of these pictographs with associated ceramic remains which helps to understand the different ritual uses of the cave
