Inside USF

Between September 1963 and the summer of 2003, the University of South Florida published a printed newsletter or newspaper for faculty and staff. Although the format and content varied during this forty-year period, the emphasis was on providing members of the University community news about USF activities, events, and employee accomplishments. Sundry and Sunscreen were parallel newsletters distributed to employees between September 1963 and December 1971. A single newsletter entitled Intercom replaced these separate fliers between 22 September 1971 and 4 October 1988.

From 5 October 1988 through 12 August 2001, this publication assumed the name Inside USF. During this period, the newsletter generally ran as a semimonthly publication and often expanded to eight or more pages per issue. In addition to news stories from the five USF campuses (St. Petersburg, Tampa, Lakeland, Sarasota/New College, and Fort Myers), most issues contained a page that highlighted faculty/staff publications, grant awards, presentations, and service-related elections/appointments. From 13 August 2001 through its demise in print form in mid-2003, the newsletter maintained a similar but reduced format with the title Forum that was published on a varying schedule. Beginning in 2003, the paper copies of a University-wide newsletter were replaced by an online USF Bulletin.

Documents digitized in this collection mention events, activities, news stories, and employee accomplishments at USF St. Petersburg. Although there are some gaps in the collection, coverage is fairly thorough between 1968 and 1971, as well as from 1988 through 2003. The USF Tampa Campus Library maintains a nearly complete collection of this publication in paper format.
