Abstract

This 3D model is the historic tomb and chapel dedicated to Felix Varela, a recognized Bishop in the community at the time, who died in 1853. The chapel was built originally in 1894 and has been extensively renovated and changed throughout the centuries since. This historic monument is located at the Tolomato Cemetery in St. Augustine, Florida which contains remains of various individuals from the 19th Century.

A three-dimensional model of a small chapel made of coquina, stucco, and brick. The chapel has a box gabled roof made of interlaid, curved, orange-red tiles and has an off-white Christian cross at its apex. Four columns decorate the front of the building and creates a small, porch-like section in front of its single, central door. There is a worn bronze sign on the left side of the chapel door, though anything it says is not visible due to the limitations of the model. Another sign attached to a wooden frame that is staked into the ground rests to the right of the full structure and gives biographical information about the man to whom the chapel was built and dedicated, Father Felix Varela. Only the exterior of the chapel is visible in this model, but it can be freely rotated, moved, and zoomed in and out, allowing the viewer to examine various details from multiple angles.
