Abstract
Oral history interview with Holocaust survivor Fejga Braun. Braun was born in a small town in eastern Poland in 1914, an area which is now part of Belarus. When she was eighteen, she left her hometown to visit her husband, who was working in another city. The next day, the war started and she was stranded without even a change of clothes. Her niece was at a nearby summer camp, so Braun rented a wagon and went to pick her up. During the war they lived in Russia, where Braun worked as a seamstress. Afterwards, they went to a displaced persons camp in Germany, then to Israel. Braun came to the United States in 1959, after divorcing her husband in Israel, and came to New York. She continued to work as a seamstress and has made dresses for three different First Ladies. Braun's niece, Eva Gallay Gregoratos, has written two books about the Holocaust, one of which is about her aunt.
