Abstract
A cartoon in reference to the Soviet and American space race. A crowing Soviet rooster has hatched "Little Sputnik." While the U.S. chicken has crushed its eggs because of Pentagon politics and a curtailed budget.
Alt Text
A chicken with dark tail feathers labeled "U.S.S.R." stands in the background with a joyful expression as a chick named "Little Sputnik" who has just hatched flies around. A chicken with an Uncle Sam hat sits on its nest labeled "our lagging satellite and missile program" in the foreground, eggs breaking underneath it. The American chicken stares at the Soviet one saying, "Aw, one swallow doesn't make a summer."
