Abstract

This chance fine flash picture was taken at Craggy Gardens, Craggy Mountain, North Carolina, in July 1959. Camera set up 8 feet of the nest and photographer without the benefit of a blind, stood across the road some 18 feet of nest, pulling string to release the shutter. The bird permitted several pictures to be taken, and then became shy. Elevation about 5700 feet. Photographed by Donald J. Nicholson, with a “Signet 40” Kodak, designed for 35mm film. Nest 2 ½ feet above road-level near foot of cut through the mountain. Path road passed within 10 feet of the nest.
