Abstract
Pictured is one of the first African Americans to be able to legally sit at F.W. Woolworth's lunch counter after the historic student sit-in on 02/29/1960, which included 40 students from George S. Middleton and Howard Blake High Schools and was led by Clarence Ford, President of the N.A.A.C.P Youth Council, and Reverend A. Leon Lowry N.A.A.C.P State president. By September 1960, Tampa's lunch counters were integrated without the violence that much of the desegregation efforts in other parts of the country have experienced.
