Abstract
Aldridge “Al” McMahan, the first pharmacist employed by the Florida State Public Health System to do pharmacy, speaks with E. Charlton Prather on the highlights of his life and career in Florida Public Health. From his beginnings in retail pharmacy in Northeast Alabama to his retirement work with the AARP “55 Alive Safety Driving Program,” McMahan discusses the positive and negative aspects of his career, including his acceptance onto the Florida State Board in 1966, the struggles of public health reorganization in the 1970s, and his personal life and philosophies on religion, family, and Florida living.
