Abstract
New York native Dolores Wennlund (1922 - 2010) moved to Florida in 1970 and served as a public health nursing consultant for Southwest Florida before becoming the state’s nursing director in 1974. In this oral history interview, Wennlund details her personal journey into public health nursing and describes how she directed the nursing workforce in Florida through the ’70s and ’80s. Her interview covers several topics, including school health services, establishment of a statewide nursing committee, the impact of AIDS on healthcare providers, and midwifery. She also touches on the history of public health nursing in Florida as detailed in her book, The Annals of Public Health Nursing in Florida. Throughout the interview, she discusses how she navigated governmental and legislative challenges.
