Abstract
Dr. Donna Petersen is currently Interim Senior Vice President of USF Health and Dean of the College of Public Health. She is an expert in Maternal and Child Health (MCH), and earned a masters and doctoral degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. She is involved nationally and locally in the areas of health planning and policy, needs assessment, and systems development and change. Her leadership extends to multiple boards, commissions and planning councils, she is widely published in public health, and she frequently lectures on issues of health care access and reform. In this oral history interview, conducted by Dr. Ellen Daley, Dr. Petersen discusses the early career choices that lead to her current field of interest, her journey from state health department work to academia, the birth of Title V legislation and its effect on MCH programming, the relationship of good data to effective research and policy development, research trends in MCH, and the future of public health and the challenges it faces.
