After serving in the United States Marine Corp during World War II, Walker moved to Florida and was trained as an x-ray technician, eventually becoming the tuberculosis (TB) project administer for Florida. In this oral history interview, Walker recalls his career in public health and the origins of community TB control programs in Florida. He describes the function and logistics of TB survey trucks and the role of the mobile x-ray in TB control. He also shares his experiences working with community organizations and local TB associations to treat and educate the public. Walker concludes his interview with remarks on the importance of children’s health programming and by describing his role as a TB laboratory business manager.
