Abstract
Robert A. Schoonover (1922 – 2015) received his undergraduate journalism degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his master’s degree in journalism and public relations from American University in Washington, D.C. In this oral history interview, Schoonover discusses his tenure as editor, writer, and photographer for Florida Health Notes, a publication of the Florida State Board of Health and its successor the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. He talks about the publication history of Florida Health Notes and its impact on public health in Florida. Schoonover describes the publication’s emphasis on healthy lifestyles and disease prevention. He also discusses the importance of communicating health issues to the public and details his journalistic process.
