Abstract
This article offers an overview of the history of dredging in the greater Tampa Bay region. The narrative focuses primarily on Boca Ciega Bay and Tampa Bay along Pinellas County, but also addresses the creation of "finger" islands in Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, and Pasco counties. Substantial dredging projects resumed after the Second World War and continued into the late 1960s before slowing down.
