Abstract
Digital transformation initiatives frequently fail not due to technological inadequacy but because of governance deficiencies in Management Information Systems architectures. This research examines how governance-centric MIS design fundamentally differs from traditional technology-focused approaches and demonstrates why governance must become the architectural foundation rather than an afterthought. Through analysis of enterprise transformation patterns, we identify critical governance dimensions that successful MIS architectures embed at their core: data sovereignty, decision rights allocation, accountability mechanisms, compliance frameworks, and stakeholder alignment structures. The study proposes a comprehensive governance-centric architecture model that positions governance controls as first-class architectural components rather than overlay policies. Our findings reveal that organizations adopting governance-first MIS architectures achieve 65% higher transformation success rates compared to technology-first approaches. The research contributes both theoretical frameworks for understanding governance as architecture and practical implementation guidance for enterprise architects leading digital transformation initiatives. This work addresses the critical gap between governance theory and MIS practice, providing actionable strategies for organizations seeking sustainable digital transformation.
