Abstract
This assignment introduces students to prompt engineering as a critical making practice to address linguistic biases in large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT. Developed for ENGL 430: UX Research Methods, it frames prompts as an emerging digital genre and challenges students to reprogram AI outputs for greater linguistic equity. Students iteratively design chatbot prototypes, such as “Translinguo,” that respond in various world Englishes, reflecting on language, ethics, and technology through hands-on experimentation.
