Abstract
Emily Holbrook interviews Hillsborough County Commissioner Mariella Smith about her work with the Environmental Lands Acquisition and Protection Program (ELAPP). Smith speaks about her interest in nature as a child and later as a graduate student at Florida State University. She also speaks on how she got involved with ELAPP and other environmental organizations in the Tampa Bay area including the Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve management advisory team. Smith notes that part of ELAPP's mission is education about environmental issues like fertilizers and climate change, but also to encourage people to get into nature and enjoy their natural environment.
