Abstract
This video presents a narrated historical account centered on the Jose Marti Steps in Ybor City, Tampa, tracing the development of the cigar industry, Cuban Immigration, and political organizing connected to the Cuban War of Independence. The narrative documents Jose Marti's visit to Tampa beginning in 1891, his speeches at the Liceo Cubano, fundraising and organizing efforts among cigar workers, and the formation of revolutionary clubs in Ybor City and West Tampa. The narration by E.J. Salciens also uncovers Tampa's role in Cuban independence within broader regional and national events, including the Spanish-American War and the establishment of the Cuban civic organization.
