Abstract
The recording presents a narrated historical account focused on the cantina located on the ground floor of El Círculo Cubano de Tampa. The narration documents the space’s original function as a gymnasium when the building opened in 1918, its conversion into a cantina by approximately 1930, and its use as a daily gathering place for members to socialize, eat, and play games such as dominoes, cards, chess, and billiards. The account also describes late twentieth-century restoration efforts, the formation of the Mambi Society in 1998, and the role of the cantina as a meeting space for contemporary Cuban Club members.
