Abstract

This article published in the Tampa Bay History journal traces the history of segregation in Pinellas County schools, describes the Bradley vs. Board of Public Instruction court decision, and examines trends in school desegregation in Pinellas County under the federal court order until 1990. Originally written as a seminar paper for a graduate course on the Civil Rights Movement taught by Steven F. Lawson, this article won the 1991 "Best History Essay" award from the USF Department of History.
