Department of Chemistry
Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at the University of South Florida! As chemistry represents the 'central science', the Department of Chemistry constitutes one of the cornerstones of scientific research and scholarship within the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the broader College of Arts & Sciences and the USF community. We offer a diverse selection of undergraduate degree programs including B.S. and B.A. degrees in Chemistry, B.S. degrees in Biomedical Sciences and Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences, and Medical Technology Certificates. Our Biomedical Sciences degree is the largest undergraduate degree program within the College of Arts & Sciences and serves as a gateway into many professional programs within the health sciences.
The Department of Chemistry at USF also houses the largest advanced degree program at USF (~ 140 graduate students) offering M.A., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry. To support our research effort the department has 28 tenure/tenure track faculty, with nearly 90% of our faculty research active. Research faculty within the department are funded through a wide array of both federal and private sources including NIH, NSF, DoD, DoE, the international Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV), etc. The rapid growth and research excellence within the Department of Chemistry parallels that of the University of South Florida which has been identified as one of the 'Up and Coming' University in the United States.
