Description

Non-heterosexual Muslims can achieve an uncompromised congruence of faith and sexuality, despite the difficulties of unifying the conflicting Islamic and LGBQ+ identities. Researchers have increasingly been examining how the compounded negative effects of intersectionality can be mediated to allow a diverse amalgamation of identities to be embraced and empowered. Attempting to reconcile Islam and queerness encompasses navigating facets of community, family, religiosity, self-identification, and representation in popular media. In exploring the congruence of intersectional identities for queer Muslims, critical thinking is pivotal in analyzing the Qur'an and navigating various, often conflicting, experiences.
