Abstract
Engage, challenge, and strengthen your creativity and problem-solving skills through a game-based, innovative method involving LEGOs, storytelling, and engaged collaboration.
Description
Building on the insights and techniques of the open source methodology, LEGO Serious Play (LPS), I began developing a new LEGO-infused instructional and learning methodology for educational contexts. I have been using Lego Inquiry Play (LIP) to teach creativity and design thinking for undergraduate students. Throughout the class, this innovative, LEGO-infused methodology drives instruction (engaging students with content), knowledge acquisition (using LIP by students to master concepts, ideas, tools), as well as the assessment (using LIP to demonstrate, actualize students’ learning) of students. This interactive and maker-centered workshop will engage participants to learn the principles, methods, and potential uses of LIP in educational settings. Through a series of activities, participants will explore some essential aspects of creativity and creative problem-solving techniques. The workshop will simulate my semester-long course on creativity and problem-based learning; thus, participants can experience through active participation the benefits of this method. I will also provide guidance and resources for participants to use this method within their own, unique educational contexts.
