In this virtual field trip, you will learn about how ecosystem structure and function changes as water tables rise to the surface. You will observe pronounced changes in depth to the water table, soil organic matter content, and plant species composition and abundance over very short spatial scales (horizontal, vertical). You will end by making a catena, a cross-sectional diagram of that gradient with information about the relationships between topography, water table, soils, and vegetation.
