Abstract

Just As I Am: The Life, The Times, The Voice of Mahalia Jackson, is local acting legend Sharon Scott's new musical about the life and times of preeminent gospel singer Mahalia Jackson. Widely regarded as the greatest gospel singer of all time and one of the most powerful voices ever, Jackson was the first performing artist in history to receive a Grammy Award for Gospel Music. This inspiring musical follows Jackson's rise to fame while dealing with her struggles in the segregated South of the early 20th century.
