Abstract

I Am My (word) is an interdisciplinary dance work that investigates the manifestation of words and how they transition socially and generationally. As the inaugural production for the CSD ColLab Series, this performance event will feature CSD dancers as well as community dancers from Manatee School for the Arts, University of Tampa, University of South Florida, and Collective Soles Youth Ensemble. Through collaborating with Bob Devin Jones, Artistic Director of Studio@620 in St. Petersburg, Florida, the CSD Artistic Director, Alex Jones, will create an evening-length dance theatre work that explores the way in which words denote ideas, shape perceptions, and explores label vs. identity, as well as the actionable effects words have within the community. Featuring choreography and direction from Audrey Richter, Alex Jones, and Bob Devin Jones, this collaboration will utilize language in all its facets (spoken, written, and embodied) to explore the weight words have on our daily personal, social, and global lives.
