Abstract
ALEX and Studio@620 Artistic Director Bob Devin Jones are creating a collaborative event that you won't want to miss! “Soul of America” is an unplugged musical and literary arts celebration in appreciation of African-American music compositions and literary works that have contributed to America's culture. Historical Fact: In 1979 President Jimmy Carter formally recognized the cultural and financial contributions of 'black' music. In 2000, US Representative Chaka Fattah sponsored House Resolution 509, which formally recognized the importance of African-American music on culture and the economy during President Bill Clinton's administration. In 2009, President Barack Obama further defined June as African American Music Appreciation month. Join in the celebration and attend this unique tribute event.
