Abstract
The Studio@620 welcomes the Tampa Bay Actor’s Theatre as they present “True West” by Sam Shepard June 5-8, 2014. This American classic by Sam Shepard explores alternatives that might spring from the demented terrain of the California landscape. Sons of a desert-dwelling alcoholic and a suburban wanderer clash over a film script. Austin, the achiever, is working on a screenplay he has sold to a producer when Lee, an unbalanced thief, drops in. He pitches his own idea for a movie to the executive, who then wants Austin to junk his bleak love story and write Lee’s trashy Western. Directed by Keven Renken, the theatre department chairman at the Pinellas County Center for the Arts, the production stars Michael Menszycki, Andrew Hughes, William Myerholtz and Elaine Coffin.
