Abstract
“Who was Mary Magdalene?” Was she the fallen woman saved from public stoning? The repentant sinner who anointed Jesus’ feet? Where did she come from? What was her position in the family of Jesus’ followers? Based in the author’s study of both historical and religious sources, the play travels outside the boundaries of the simple sketch offered in the New Testament and introduces a woman of substance and the subversive path that she ultimately chose. Written and performed by award winning actor, Roxanne Fay (Studio@620 Artistic Associate), Upon This Rock strives to make flesh the woman who is called “The Apostle of the Apostles”-Mary, the Magdalene. The play is derived from Ms. Fay's novel of the same name, which will be available for purchase at the performances of the play.
