Abstract
The American Ornithologists Union (now the American Ornithological Society) first listed this “introduced” species in their North American check-list in 1983, with the common English name Common Peafowl, eventually renaming the species Indian Peafowl in 2012 to reflect the geographic range of the species. In addition to India, where the Indian Peafowl became its national bird in 1963, the species is native to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan
