Abstract
A lesson plan for high school social studies classrooms that examines the history and preservation efforts surrounding Moffett Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida. Students work in groups to analyze nine newspaper articles from 1949 to 2006, focusing on the challenges of maintaining a historically Black cemetery and the civic actions taken over time. Through discussion and reflection, students identify lessons in community responsibility, cultural memory, and public advocacy, connecting historical cases to current redevelopment debates involving Tropicana Field.
