Abstract
A lesson plan for high school social studies classrooms focused on the redevelopment of the Gas Plant District in St. Petersburg, Florida, where several African American cemeteries were once located. Students examine articles from 1953 to 2023 and explore Black Cemetery Network entries for Oaklawn, Moffett, and Evergreen Cemeteries. The lesson emphasizes civic engagement, historical land use, and the social consequences of urban redevelopment through group analysis, source interpretation, and reflective writing.
