Abstract
A lesson plan for high school social studies classrooms that investigates the disappearance and rediscovery of Zion Cemetery in Tampa, Florida. Students work in groups to analyze photographs, historical records, and a 2019 investigative news article detailing the cemetery’s erasure and its rediscovery beneath the Robles Park housing project. Through collaborative source analysis, video reflection, and group discussion, students explore issues of racial injustice, urban development, and public accountability, drawing connections between past neglect and present efforts to preserve African American burial grounds.
