Abstract
A lesson plan for high school social studies classrooms that explores the effects of Jim Crow laws through the lens of Oaklawn Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida. Students examine how segregation extended to burial practices, analyze two 1925 newspaper articles using the Library of Congress Primary Source Analysis Tool, and conduct individual investigations into broader themes of systemic racism. Activities include group discussions, mini-presentations, and a reflective writing exercise connecting historical segregation to identity and community impact.
